What It Is

Design Essentials Silk Essentials Strengthening Serum is a lightweight strengthening and smoothing serum that easily penetrates the cuticle and locks in moisture during heat styling, leaving hair shiny and full of body.

What It Does

• Improves hair manageability while imparting shine and a high-gloss finish

• Gentle lightweight formula is perfect for all hair types (can be used wet or dry)

• Protects from damage during heat styling

1. Place a few small drops of Silk Essentials onto palms and emulsify.

2. Apply to hair (wet or dry) from ends to scalp.

It’s still a solid product good for shine added softness! It’s better for curly hair or hair that has been relaxed,but don’t shy away from it if don’t have those hair types just be careful w/how you use it!

But I gave it 3 stars because the bottle is just awful. The product leaks if the bottle ever gets knocked over; and the serum is thick, so not only does it waste product when it leaks, but it’s a big mess to clean up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I’ve used way better I really didn’t see that this did anything! It didn’t absorb into the hair, it didn’t add any shine and it didn’t even add any slip it the hair. My go to one is Paul Mitchell super skinny and it absorbs into the hair, adds shine and conditions the hair all without weighing the hair down.

When you use it wet it smooths the hair nicely and gives it a nice gloss without being too oily. When you use it dry I would stick to putting it on the ends. Works perfectly if you rub it in your hair prior to breaking up heated curls and gives it a nice soft sheen that doesn’t look oily. Perfect for dry ends!

I applied a dime sized amount to my dry hair before going in with a smoothing hot tool (you can also apply the serum to wet/damp hair before blow drying as well). My hair came out feeling so soft and looking so smooth with minimal frizz afterwards! I like that the serum feels super light weight in the hair and also acts as a heat protectant. In addition, it penetrates the cuticle, locking in moisture during heat styling. I was not a huge fan of the scent but thankfully it's pretty faint. It is formulated with amino acids which helps to strengthen while smoothing the hair shaft. Overall, it is a nice hair serum and I would consider repurchasing it again in the future.
