1. Move the ON/OFF switch on the FHI Heat Platform Styling Iron to the ON position. The red 2. LED above the ON/OFF switch will light up, indicating that the Styling Iron is turned ON. A blinking red light means that the Styling Iron has not yet reached your desired temperature. A steady red light means that the styling iron has reached your desired temperature and is ready for use. Use the temperature dial (located next to the ON/OFF switch) to start at the lowest temperature setting and increase only as needed. 3. Take a small section of hair and run a comb through it to separate the hair strands. 4. Place the combed section of hair between the ceramic plates starting as close to the scalp as possible. 5. Close the styling iron lightly – you do not need to close the styling iron tightly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lasted a long time. This straightener had lasted me for 15 years until it finally broke ( it's my fault, I dropped it too many times). I bought another one 2 years ago. I love that it heats up fast and has various temperate settings for all sorts of hair. Huge plus, it will automatically shut off if you forget to unplug. I highly recommend it for my family, friends, and clients.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised I have fine, thick, damaged caucasian hair so I switched from a Paul Mitchell titanium iron to this. It does take longer to get straight hair, but that's not what I wanted from this straightner. I let my hair air dry to wavy, then I flatten the roots and ends as needed and style the hair that frames my face mostly. Glides through without pull, heats up very quickly, and seems to be easier on my damaged hair. Only negative is it takes a while to cool down, but that was only mentioned in a review so I didn't care either way.
