1. Remove Build-Up. For color to take, you need to get the hair as clean as possible. Baxter of California’s latest launch, Deep Clean Shampoo, is a purifying shampoo designed to give hair the reset that it needs. Pair this with the Daily Fortifying Conditioner to restore hair’s manageability. You’re going to need it to make the hair workable.

2. Ensure A Blank Canvas. Like all artists, you’ll want a blank canvas to create on. Mix one part Pulp Riot Blank Canvas to three parts developer, like the Pulp Riot 6- and 10-Volume developers. And here’s a pro tip: sometimes 20-Volume hair can be recolored immediately after using Blank Canvas.

- Apply to the areas where you want to remove existing color and cover the hair to maximize the effectiveness. Sit back and relax for 30 minutes, or until you see the hair get to the level of what you need.
- Inspect the hair to see if your blank canvas is ready. You’ll know this when the hair is as close to white as possible. When it gets there, completely rinse the hair, and then wash with the Daily Fortifying Shampoo & Conditioner.

Pro tip: For sensitive skin, use the Baxter of California After Shave Balm to cool the skin.

3. Achieve Color. For this look, use Pulp Riot Area 51 for the bright green pop, and then a combination of Pulp Riot Area 51 and Pulp Riot Absinthe for that grungy look on the ends.

- When ready, fully dry the hair so that no water will dilute the color.
- Mix Area 51 and apply to the roots to make the hair pop. Continue to cover the whole head in layers to paint exactly where you need.
- Then, mix two parts Area 51 and one part Absinthe, applying to the ends of the hair. While Pulp Riot doesn’t bleed, use foiled layers to get precise color placement.
- With the model having the coolest rat tail, use Pulp Riot Deviant here to give that joker vibe.
- Let the hair sit for 25 to 45 minutes.
- Keep checking the hair and when you see the color take, rinse with cool water. Do not shampoo as this will be the base.

4. Create A Mohawk Fade. To style, create a burst mohawk fade to the back of the hair, and then texturize the top to allow a finger curl technique to get the look.

- Kick it off by applying Baxter of California Grooming Cream into your hand and massage into the hair and scalp. This conditioner lotion will prep the hair for a cleaner cut.
- Start on the side so you can blend the top of the hair into the sides.
- The Mohawk fade is very similar to a traditional fade (check out our textured fade tutorial) with the only difference here being that you’ll want your guide line to curve down the back of the head to get that mohawk effect. We recommend using a #1 and #2 guard, and finishing with bald to create that burst look.
- Use shears to blend the fade into the top of the hair, and using a clipper over comb technique where necessary around the temple to debulk the hair.
- To style, use Baxter of California Hard Water Pomade to create a finger wave style for the soft, wet curly look.
- Make sure to work the Hard Water Pomade all throughout the hair, and then use a comb to create layers for the size of the waves you want.
- Use your fingers to hold where you want the hair to make the wave motion, and use the comb to dictate where you want the hair to go. If the hair is longer like our model, wrap the hair around your finger to create a looser look.
