Formulated with vegan ingredients like glyoxylic acid, water lily extract, and amika's signature sea buckthorn, Pro Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment helps to fight unwanted frizz on all hair types. Glyoxylic acid is an organic acid compound that restructures keratin in the hair cortex to smooth while increasing shine and manageability of all hair types. When heat is applied to the hair, the glyoxylic acid creates a hydrophobic barrier—think of it like a raincoat for your strands—temporarily blocking humidity for the smoothest results.

While most smoothing treatments alter hair’s natural pattern, Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Salon-Only Service was developed to offer a frizz-fighting solution for all hair types with results that still look and feel like your client’s hair (no permanent straightening!). To do this, we developed 2 different application and styling directions to better suit your client’s specific hair needs.
Natural Curl Service Instructions: The natural curl service instructions are best suited for clients with waves, curls, and coils that most often wear their hair naturally (no hair straighteners here!) and are looking for less frizz and more manageability.
1. Wash hair with Pro Smooth Over Priming Shampoo—the perfect prep step to clarify, breakdown buildup, and create a clean base so the treatment can properly penetrate the strands. Repeat this step for thicker, coarser hair. Towel dry hair.
2. Divide hair into 4 parts, spray treatment 4-6” away on 1” thick sections, ½" inch from the scalp. Comb through evenly.
3. Process without heat for 20 minutes.
4. Blow dry using diffuser until 100% dry.
5. Rinse hair with water (do not shampoo) and apply an amika conditioner or mask. Rinse.
6. Dry with a diffuser to see final results.
Straight Service Instructions: The straight service instructions are perfect for all hair types that typically blow out or straighten their hair. For clients with wavy, curly, or coily hair types using these instructions, there will be temporary elongation and hair will be straighter than before the treatment but will still require heat styling to achieve a ‘straight’ look after the first 48 hours.
1. Wash hair with Pro Smooth Over Priming Shampoo—the perfect prep step to clarify, breakdown buildup, and create a clean base so the treatment can properly penetrate the strands. Repeat this step for thicker, coarser hair. Towel dry hair.
2. Divide hair into 4 parts, spray treatment 4-6” away on 1” thick sections, ½" inch from the scalp. Comb through evenly.
3. Process without heat for 20 minutes.
4. Blow dry hair straight with round brush or paddle brush until 100% dry.
5. Flat iron small sections from roots to ends, 3-5 passes per section, depending on hair type and condition.
• For fine, color-treated, or chemically treated hair: 360°F
• For medium to coarse color-treated or chemically treat hair: 410°F
• For fine virgin hair: 400°F
• For medium to coarse virgin hair: 420°F
6. Rinse hair with water (do not shampoo) and apply an amika conditioner or mask. Rinse.
7. Blow dry with a round brush or paddle brush and then silk press or flat iron to see final results.
